The Client
You’re the keeper of family history that ought to be preserved for future generations, but you just can’t find the time and focus to make the project happen.
You can’t do it all on your own, anyway!
You want to be remembered by children, family and friends. You have some insights and wisdom to share.
You’ve faced a serious illness and have a heightened sense of your own mortality. You want to tell people how much you love them and how grateful you are for the life you’ve had.
You look at photos and reflect on what was happening and who you were back then. Imagine if you could also hear your voice and see yourself make a gesture or laugh!
You want to mark an occasion like a special birthday or anniversary and give someone a gift they will cherish forever.
You have an intuition about the power of a "life review."
Possible obstacles:
"I don't like how I look on camera!" First, all those quirky little gestures you find annoying in yourself pass largely unnoticed by those who love you. Or they find them totally endearing. Second, you're not making this video for you. You're making it for those you love. You may have a moment of insecurity when we start, but I promise you won't want to stop!
"It seems too egotistical." At first blush, yes, you're taking a leap of faith in assuming that anyone really wants to watch it! But perhaps you've had the experience of seeing a video of someone's wedding and remember the good feelings that evoked. You're doing this because you know deep down inside that your children - or grandchildren - totally adore you. There are things they don't know or won't remember about their history unless you get it down. You're doing it for them.
"There are things that are painful that I really don't want to talk about." Then don't. This is your show. You make all the decisions and you can change your mind right up to the final cut.
Please don't hesitate to raise any other concerns when we talk!
